Pastor Bruce Readling

I was born and raised in Concord, North Carolina. Around the age of 15 I first heard the gospel from my Sunday School teacher when he came to my parent's home. The first time I heard it, I personally received Jesus Christ as my Savior. Receiving little if any discipleship, I struggled for the next four years in sin.  Finally after much prayer God brought a young woman across my path. She was used by the Lord to connect me to a godly church fellowship and later became my wife. At 19 years of age God called me to work with youth. This I did at several churches in Concord and later in Greensboro, NC. At the age of 25 I surrendered to the call to the ministry. I attended Piedmont Bible College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. At 30 years of age He directed me to a church in Burlington, North Carolina where I pastored for seven and a half years. In 1995, the people of CBF called me to pastor the work God was doing in them. I count it a privilege to be a part of what He is doing here in and through CBF.

When I was very young my parents came to know the Lord. From that moment our family was in church. I accepted Christ as my Savior as a pre-teen. The music of the church has had a special place in my heart from my initial exposure to the present.

My fondest memories from college days are woven together by the thread of music. I will never forget the experience of working hard in choir rehearsals five days a week to prepare to minister through song. Praying together and the seeing God answer prayer as the hearts of people were touched by the ministry of the choir were blessings that cannot be measured. (Some of the zany activities my buddies and I participated in on choir tours are better left untold.)

Through music the life paths of a girl from New York and a boy from North Carolina crossed in the state of Tennessee. My wife Sue and I met as members of a small ensemble. It fell on her to give the new tenor a crash course since the first singing engagement was less than a week after the new member joined. That "engagement" led to another. We were married two weeks after graduation.

In the fall of that year I began teaching at a Christian school in Kentucky. Sue accompanied the high school choir while I directed. Those were the days I held our firstborn Jonathan, with one arm and directed with the other.
Next we moved to Ohio where our second child, Elisabeth, was born. I took a position as a Youth and Music Director in a church just outside Cincinnati. We served there three years.

David, our third child, was born after we moved to North Carolina. I directed a couple of church choirs before CBF was started. Since then it has been my delight to lead the choir and congregation in singing. I thank God for Sue who is my music mentor. It is a joy to work with the people involved in music ministry. There is a willingness to be used by God that is refreshing.

My desire is to grow in my understanding of worship. I pray this fellowship will learn to worship God as we offer a sacrifice of praise together. Christ is worthy of our praise and worship. Revelation 5:12

I was born in Mississippi in 1963. After six months my family moved us to North Carolina where I have been ever since. I grew up in a Christian home and attended a Baptist church religiously until age 16 when I felt it no longer necessary. After meeting my future husband in 1980, we married at the age of 18. Our first child Jennifer Lee was born three years later and another child, Sarah, followed shortly after.

My husband and I separated after seven years of marriage. The next time I attended church was in 1988 to fulfill an AWANA requirement for my girls to pass off their sections at a local church. That is where I heard God speaking to my heart and realized I was a sinner not fit for heaven. I gave my life to Jesus in November of that year. My husband Jimmy and I reconciled our marriage after that, and he received Christ in March of 1997 at the Shoney’s in Burlington. Our lives have never been the same.

In 1999 I joined the staff of Christian Bible Fellowship as a part-time secretary and was asked to work full time in 2000. I thank the Lord for my church family and for a job so fulfilling!

I was born and raised right here in God’s Country.  After going to church some here and there as a young child, I went to a church youth camp when I was 10 years old.  It was there on a Wednesday night on August 8, 1979 that I accepted Christ as my Savior.  During my Junior High years I drifted away from God and had a heart of rebellion.  However I could never get too far from God and his voice.  God’s word says “my sheep know my voice” (John 10:27).  Even when I was rebelling and going my own way, God was pursuing me, and would often bring me back to him.  However it wasn’t until the summer of 1982 at another summer youth camp, that I totally dedicated my life to God.  Since that day, God blessed me with strong churches and Godly examples to help me in my walk with God.  After High School God lead me to Word of Life Bible Institute, and School of Youth and Missions in Schroon Lake, NY where God continued to reveal himself to me, and prepare me for His service.  Psalms 37:23-25 says “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.  Though he falls, he will not be utterly cast down for the Lord upholds him with His hand.  I was young and now I am old and I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.”  I praise God for being so faithful to uphold me even when I was down and to direct my steps even when I didn’t realize it.  In the summer of 2005 God directed my steps here to Christian Bible Fellowship where I get to work with an awesome group of teenagers!
